Inertia

I struggle to find relevance in many of things I was taught in school.
I have yet to be asked, for instance, to perform the recorder, jump off the back of a bus or make a Punnett square, although if the day ever arrives you better believe I'll be ready.
There is however, an exception, and it is Newton's Laws of Motion.
The first law in particular comes in handy almost daily, and not just the days I want to test the crash impact of a speeding train.
I'm talking about days when I want to accomplish something, anything.
It is the Law of Inertia,
which states that an object at rest will remain at rest unless acted upon, and the same goes for an object in motion.
Do you relate to that? Think of a day when it feels like you have done nothing. The longer you do nothing the more you just. want. to. do. nothing. Inertia!
And it works both ways. Once you get moving, it's often hard to stop. Thank you inertia, we love you! When we don't hate you.
This is one of my favorite productivity tools.
The next time you have a project to complete, goal to accomplish, dream to chase, or just a nudging feeling to turn off Netflix and get out of bed, remember the law of inertia.
You are at rest, and will be until acted upon.
So act!
What is one thing, ONE tiny little thing you can do to get started?
Take a shower
Empty the sink
Answer a single email
Start the washing machine
Write one paragraph
Edit a single photo
Read one chapter
Drink a glass of water
Play one game with your child
Walk once around the block
Inertia can be your enemy or friend. The difference maker is a single task to get moving.
And if that task is playing the recorder, jumping off the back of a bus or making a Punnet square, I stand corrected.
